Our History

Immanuel was organized in 1905 by a small group of German speaking settlers living in and near Parkers Prairie.

After worshiping in rented facilities for a few years, they built their own church in 1914 (which still stands as part of our current facility).

In 1921 the congregation became large enough to call its own full-time pastor. As Immanuel continued to grow it added on to its facility in 1941 and then in 1965 added an education wing.

A narthex was added in 1979. In 1986 the interior of the sanctuary was completely remodeled. In 1996 we began to have vicars (student pastors) who came to our congregation for a year of practical learning and preparation for ministry. In 2003 a 10,000 square foot building project doubled the size of our facility, adding an elevator, fellowship hall and kitchen, offices, gathering space, libraries and restrooms.

In 2013 in place of the vicarage program, we began sharing a second pastor from Garfield 1-2 days a week. In 2018 we began sharing a pastor with Trinity, Carlos, in a 50-50 partnership. In 2024 we are looking to continue that partnership with Carlos by applying for a vicar.
